The selection process for SSC CHSL includes a computer-based examination (Tier I), descriptive paper (Tier II), and skill test/typing test (Tier III). The Tier I exam consists of four sections: English language, general intelligence, quantitative aptitude, and general awareness. The exam is conducted online and consists of 100 questions for a total of 200 marks.
Candidates who qualify for the Tier I exam will be eligible to appear for the Tier II exam, which is a descriptive paper of 100 marks. The Tier III exam is a skill test/typing test that evaluates the typing speed of the candidate.

The SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) exam is conducted in three tiers, and each tier has its own syllabus. The syllabus for each tier is as follows:
Tier-I:
- English Language: Reading comprehension, cloze test, para jumbles, sentence correction, and error spotting.
- General Intelligence: Analogy, classification, coding-decoding, matrix, word formation, Venn diagrams, blood relations, direction and distance, and series.
- Quantitative Aptitude: Simplification, interest, percentage, ratio and proportion, average, problem on ages, speed, distance and time, profit and loss, number system, mensuration, geometry, and data interpretation.
- General Awareness: History, geography, polity, economics, science, and current affairs.
Tier-II:
- Descriptive Paper: Essay writing and letter/application writing.
Tier-III:
- Skill Test/Typing Test: Candidates have to take a typing test (in English or Hindi) on the computer, and they should have a typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
Candidates should also note that the level of difficulty of the exam is generally of the 10+2 level. Therefore, candidates should focus on their basic concepts and practice regularly to crack the exam. In addition, staying updated with current affairs and reading newspapers regularly can also be helpful for the general awareness section.
